I LOVE TO LOOK AT COOKBOOKS! There, I’ve said it. I also enjoy purchasing them and receiving them as gifts. New cooking ideas are like going on a culinary adventure. Discovering new tastes, smells, colors, and textures.
When you find a recipe with foreign or strange sounding ingredients, the imagination can run wild. Things like Durian, Rocoto Pepper, Manioc Flour, and Sofrito - while I don’t know how to use them, I like the sound of them.
I only just discovered a cool website that helps you know more about all sorts of ingredients and recipes. (https://www.thespruceeats.com/international-ingredients-4162160). So now when I open a cookbook that has unrecognizable ingredients, I can look them up and figure out where to find them.
The picture which accompanies this blog shows just some of the delightful looking cookbooks we have at Canterbury. Every time I walk by these shelves, I notice another one that I think, “hmmm, maybe I should buy this one!” Luckily, I have been practicing restraint, or I might end up spending all of my wages.
What is your favorite style of food? Do you have a favorite culture whose dishes just bowl you over? When asked, I have a hard time picking one favorite food - I just like my food to be flavorful and colorful.
Come on in and explore our cookbooks! You might get started on your next adventure!
